Q: I just read an article about chickens being one of the largest exports in Georgia. Why can’t the countries these chickens are sent to grow their own chickens instead of exporting so many from the Nov 3, 2009
A: The U.S. exports chickens mainly because we produce more than we consume, said Scott Hansohn, manager of technical communications for the Stone Mountain-based USA Poultry xport Council. He said chicken producers can grow a full-size chicken for consumption in about 40 to 45 days. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution -- Metro)
