The German government reportedly has given Magna and Italy s Fiat S.p.A. preferred bidder status for Opel and is granting them access to the automaker s books. Chrysler filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection April 30 ahead of a planned merger with Italian automaker Fiat S.p.A., and Thursday asked a judge in the court s Southern District of New York to allow it to end agreements with. Many of its dealers are being approached by other car manufacturers, and by establishing a list of dealerships that will remain with Chrysler following its merger with Fiat S.p.A., the manufacturer said it hopes to prevent losing stronger dealerships because of uncertainty surrounding the bankruptcy case.
